Greenwood is centrally located among major Southern markets, including Atlanta, Charlotte, Greenville, Columbia and Augusta and within a day’s drive of almost half of the U.S. population. Greenwood has four-lane access (under an hour) to I-26, I-385, and I-85, three commercial airports within an easy commute and rail service through two CSX mainlines.

Employers draw from a workforce of more than 87,000 and a wide labor shed of employees willing to commute up to 60 minutes. Greenwood’s high concentration of in-demand occupations includes production, engineering, maintenance, and logistics. The number of manufacturing jobs is 220% above the national average, with employment costs 23% below the national average.

Greenwood cultivates the talent pipeline through middle school career exploration programs, high school manufacturing certificate programs and gap scholarships. An average of 1,500 students graduate annually from two local higher education institutions, Lander Universrity and Piedmont Technical College, with favorable enrollment in key programs.

The confluence of high utility capacities and heavy rail access makes Greenwood prime for industrial site location projects. Our solid infrastructure includes abundant natural gas, 20 MGD excess water capacity and 2.62 excess wastewater capacity. Greenwood has excellent rail accessibility, with daily service to Atlanta and Charlotte and direct rail to the Ports of Charleston and Savannah. Greenwood is a Certified Connected Community with four fiberoptic providers and a comprehensive plan for a technology-ready community.

Greenwood leadership is committed to planned growth through economic development. With $23.6 million in public and private investment in Greenwood’s vibrant city center, and comprehensive plans for Lake Greenwood and expanded recreational sites, the county pays careful attention to its natural assets. A new genetics campus for creation of life sciences jobs, LEED library, growing medical innovation, and a recently completed manufacturing training center at Piedmont Technical College, Greenwood is laying the groundwork for continued success.

Greenwood offers a combination of affordability, spectacular outdoor recreation, excellent healthcare, rich history, and a strong arts and entertainment scene. The cost of living is 17 percent below the national average, and the mild climate makes outdoor activities enjoyable year round. Events and attractions include award-winning festivals, historic sites, seven golf courses, hiking and biking trails and more than 11,000 acres of water in Lake Greenwood. Uptown Greenwood is vibrant with new businesses, shops and locally owned restaurants.
